Its a lovely set. The wood box is constructed well, but I think it would be much classier with a gloss finish. The box has a dark wood stain, but feels a little unfinished. Ill be going to be local hardware store and buying gloss so I can get the box the way I would like it. There is a shoe/foot rest on top of the box that also serves as the handle. Im not sure if this shoe rest is suppose to aid someone in shining their own shoes, but it is designed similar to a shoe rest at a shine while wearing shine place, meaning that in order for the rest to be useful, the person has to sit opposite of you, place the foot on the rest, and keep pressure against it. Now this doesnt make sense if youre shining your own shoe as the rest is angled, and if you place your own shoe on it while trying to polish your shoes, it will just fall right off. So if anything, the rest serves merely as a handle. Customer service was good. I had a question previous to purchasing and shot off an e-mail. The response was timely, but the questions were answered very matter of factly - not that it was bad, but I could imagine a few more words could have been said to encourage my purchase of the kit, such as emphasizing that the quality of the components would suit the needs of anyone, particularly those with an expensive shoe collection. Overall a good, easy transaction. Im happy with the price and the quality of the products that came with the kit. I looked at Johnston and Murphys kit, and although the box was a nicer cedar wood, I didnt like the components as it came with their own products and less brushes.
